Akron Police publishes Bodycam video of fatal shooting; Mayor replies

Akron, Ohio-Die police from Akron, released Bodycam video this weekend after a fatal shooting on Monday.

In the video you can see civil servants who try to cover a man who was later identified as Marcus Smith. There are shots to be heard that are released when the responding officer took cover when other officers arrived at the crime scene.

The police can be heard that they “put their hands up” and “drop”.

As soon as Smith was down, the officers approached him when he used their vehicles as cover. They ordered him again to put down the gun when more shots could be heard.

The officers later turned to Smith to first aid. Officials can be heard that they couldn't feel a pulse.

The shootout occurred on Monday morning after the authorities received a call via a stolen white Toyota Camry. The call was shared at the beginning of the published video police. Smith had been seen when the vehicle was driving when an official tried to initiate the traffic stops.

A weapon was found nearby, where Smith went down.

In a statement after the publication of the Body camera -Film material said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik to put the incident “the dangerous situation that our officials encountered on Monday morning.”

“My thoughts are in all responding civil servants while processing this traumatic encounter,” he said, adding, he also thought of the residents who could have seen the incident, and civil servants who know that they may react to similar incidents must.

Malik recognized reports that Smith had to do with fighting on mental health and sent out his family.

The shootout is examined by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the three officials involved were put on a paid vacation until the result.
