Deadly shooting in Tacoma leaves 1 dead; The police are looking for suspects

An 18-year-old man was shot in Tacoma on Sunday evening, causing the residents of a residential building to shake and changed with low incomes.

The shootout occurred around 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of South L Street, the location of an apartment building of the Tacoma Housing Authority. The residents believe that the shootout took place in the elevator area, although the Tacoma police did not confirm this detail.

Danielle Eberwein, a resident of the building, described the terrible scene.

“I and my children live on the fourth floor and everything we heard was: 'Pop -Pop someone helps someone.' The police officers were detective forensics here that we couldn't get in front, “she said.

Crime Tape blocked the entrance to the building when the police examined the scene. The victim was declared dead when the officers arrived. Shelbie Boyd, public information officer of the Tacoma Police Department, expressed the grief of the community.

“It is sad. It is tragic. A life lost in Tacoma is unacceptable, but if it is a younger person who had her whole life in front of you, it will hide even more,” said Boyd.

The police are still investigating whether the shootout was random or targeted. In the meantime, residents such as Eberwein have been frustrated about the ongoing crime in the region.

“It is a brand new building, and it has already been opened. There is always some drug activity, and the office just doesn't take care of us. I am ready to move and we are just pulling here,” said Eberwein.

The Tacoma police are concerned about the increasing number of murders in the city. So far there have been six murders this year, of which only five took place in February.

“Our detective, our officers, our forensic employees, they work through these numbers around the clock,” said Boyd.

No arrests were made in connection with the shooting. Like many residents, Eberwein is looking for answers and is tired of living in fear.

“I'm afraid. I didn't sleep all night, my daughter can't sleep, we all have just enough,” she said.
