The fans enjoy the last day of the Pine Mountain Ski Jump competition

Iron Mountain, Michigan (WLUC) – fans came out in a strong number this weekend to see a ski jumping competition in Iron Mountain.

The Kiwanis Ski Club said that at least 14,000 people were participated in the Continental Cup, with Saturday being the most busy day.

TV6 heard from fans that they enjoyed the community and the tradition of watching the event.

For Brent Bacheldor, this was his third year in which he watched the jumps. He said he was coming back because he was watching the event.

“Oh, the people, especially,” said Bacheldor. “Yes, only here because good family friends. But it is simply a spectacle if these guys hit it from there in almost 60 miles per hour, there is nothing comparable. “

Nick Blagec, President of the Kiwanis Ski Club, said the audience had a good tournament this year.

“The tournament itself was incredible,” said Blagec. “Today was also a pretty decent tournament, a nice amount was back. Yesterday was incredible. The trial jump, we had a good field here this week, the Hill record was broken three times. “

Kristin Moser has observed the tournament since her teenager. She said she has noticed changes over the years.

“You certainly have longer jumps than before,” said Moser. “And you know when we started to come here, the ski jump was wooden. You only updated this three or four years ago, so it is certainly a different competition than before. “

Randy Evosevich said that his mother was at the first ski jumping tournament in Iron Mountain in 1939. He remains a committed fan to this day.

“There are times when it was 45 degrees and there were times when it is negative 5,” said Evosevich. “But we are still here and we still support it, buy 50/50 and support Kiwanis because we know what they bring to the community.”

Evosevich said he hoped that younger generations will take the staff to their predecessors to grow the tournament.

The results from Sunday are available here.
