Ports of La, Long Beach see the busiest January on record

In front of an expected round of tariffs for goods from China, Mexico and Canada, both the port of Los Angeles and the port of Long Beach experienced their busiest January. For the port of Long Beach, the volume was also the second largest month in its history in January from 952,733.

The port of LA began in 2025 with the move of 924,245 teus, an increase of 8% compared to the previous year. At both ports in San Pedro, their second most important years were recorded in 2024 and almost 20 million teus. La Business first reported.

“This January milestone contributes to a great selection of strong volume, with the last seven months have an average of more than 927,000 container units,” said Gene Seroka, Executive Director of LA, LA. “A strong economy, together with importers who brought cargo as a security against tariffs and before the new year of the moon, were key factors in January.”
