16. Station's Sweet Valentine's Day Lunche Hones Seniors and Veterans

The 16th Station of Chicago was held with joy and warm appreciation at the 6th annual Sweet 16th Station Valentine's Day Luncheon, which was held by Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Kennedy-King College. The event that brought over 400 together seniors and military veterans were a day of celebration, gratitude and unexpected grief.

With a program with music, warm speeches and special recognition, lunch honored veterans and community leaders for their lifelong contributions. There were community among the respected guests.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Virgote Jones, a loved one, who was celebrated for the achievement of an incredible milestone – 100 years of age. Jones and nine co -owners and other award winners received special praise and warm wishes from officials and recognized their unshakable service and legacy.

The guests enjoyed a festive atmosphere with appearances by Louisiana Al & the 50 Yardline Blues Band, “Uncle” George Daniels and Dr. Al Greer and a surprising guest performance. The participants were also spoiled with a delicious meal, which was served by Alderman Coleman and their co -officers and reinforced the topic to give back to those who pave the way.

However, the joyful occasion took a dark turn when Vergia Jones was taken to the hospital shortly after the event. Despite the expression of love and vouchers, the estimated oldest died later and left a profound emptiness in the community.

“We also honor the legacy of our hundred -year -old mother vergia Jones, who has received her heavenly wings since then. Her grace, wisdom and love for our community will never be forgotten, ”said Alderman Coleman on her official Facebook page.

The event became a moment of the festival, but a moving memory of the importance of appreciating our oldest while they are still here. The 16.
