The Cleveland Division of Fire wants them to stay away from the ice

Cleveland, Ohio (Woio) – with warmer temperatures there is the potential danger on the Eriesee.

Cleveland Fire tells 19 news that the currents are moved under the ice and that it starts to make it unsure.

19 News could be observed on Monday several people who went on the thin layer of ice on the Edwater Beach.

“I think some of the people who actually see that others go on it could give them the wrong feeling of security,” said firefighter Gerardo Colon.

On Sunday, a man broke his leg on the ice and had to be saved by firefighters and their rescue man.

Cleveland Fire says that this situation could have been much worse.

“If someone would fall into the water partially or completely, they would be hypothermia, frost bite, unconsciousness and lead them to death,” said Colon.

Cleveland Fire asks that you stay away from the lake and when you see someone who needs help to call 911.

They have two stations that were specially trained for these situations.

“We have the ability to save,” said Colon. “So let's do our job so that everyone can go home safely.”
