Sugar holder are preparing for the knocking season while the temperatures rise

Williston, vt. (WCAX) -If you trudge through knee -deep snow, the beginning of this sugar season is much different than last year.

“There were many days in this knock season when we couldn't go out,” said Amy Yandow.

Despite the thick blanket of snow, the Yandows from Sugartre Maple Farm have successfully depicted all of their trees.

Since the supply of last year is falling, you are ready that the sweet stuff flows again.

“We hope that our sugar content will be a little higher because the trees have not been so quiet in a long time that it could increase our sugar content,” said Yandow.

Last year, the farm was only shy compared to its record of 1,200 gallons. This year they hope to keep the successful series going, but sugar makers cannot read the thoughts of mother nature.

“If you want to know something about the season, ask in May,” said Allison Hope from the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers' Association.

Hope says that a few years first look better than they turn out. “It is difficult to say that our producers are happy to tell me:” Allison, we are farmers in Vermont, we have to be optimists, “she said.

No matter what this season brings, Hope says that Mankt's sugar manufacturer likes to tap the door of spring after a long, cold winter.

“The sugar season begins a lot of what we love on spring,” said Hope.

All sugar manufacturers are preparing for the Maple Open House weekend on March 22nd and 23rd when Community members visit sugar houses and enjoy all sweet treats to start the season.
