Houston – “What is a mouth protection” and “sleep apnea” in the Google search, as the Americans try to find ways to get a better sleep.

If you are on social media, you have probably seen an advertisement or people talk about the advantages of mouthparters.

When awareness of sleep disorders grows, more people turn to these devices as an alternative to conventional CPAP machines.

What is sleep apnea?

The sleep apnea is a state in which breathing, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, repeatedly stops and begins. The most common form, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), occurs when the neck muscles relax and block the air flow. If it remains untreated, it can lead to high blood pressure, heart diseases, days or serious problems such as the risk of a stroke or heart attack.

How do mouth guards help?

In contrast to CPAP machines that use a continuous air pressure to keep the airways open, a mouth protection repositions the pine and tongue to prevent the airways from obstruction. These customer-specific devices are prescribed by dentists or sleep specialists and offer a quieter, more comfortable alternative to CPAP therapy.

Why are you trend?

  • More comfort and convenience – in contrast to CPAP masks, mouth monitors are small, portable and do not require electricity.

  • Increased awareness – more studies underline their effectiveness for light to moderate OSA.

  • Prominent notes and social media – public personalities and influencers who share success stories have aroused interest.

  • Expanding insurance cover – some insurance plans now cover mouth sores, which makes them more accessible.
