People can get a lead in the new vegetation period

Springfield, Mo. (Ky3) – In the spring -like temperatures, some people flock to the parking spaces to enjoy the time outside and take the landscape. But when it comes to gardening, it is best to wait until mid -April to plant something in the ground.

Kelly McGowan, gardening specialist at the Mu extension, says that now is a great time to start your seeds.

“At the moment people should think about cool seasonal plants and vegetables,” said McGowan. “Salad is now a great thing because it can deal with a cool weather. Even some sugar snappers are currently a great option. Broccoli, coriander and carrots are a great thing. “

While something is a fair game from mint to tomatoes to tin and wildflowers, there are differences in how to ensure the seeds when running. Fortunately, McGowan says that those who want to start with the seeds only have to look at the back of the seed packaging.

“Read the instructions very carefully about how to plant because you can be a little, you know, sensitive to how deeply you plant, how much sunlight and such things,” says McGowan. “We are lucky enough to have a lot of business, sell garden needs and buy what you need and get the help you need to get going.”

Before you can plant, you have to think about what the seeds should plant. The options on the market include these starter kits, which contain biodegradable pots that can collapse over time and make it easier to transplant when it is time to go into the ground.

There are other options on the market, including regular pots or these cells that have no starting floor at all. If you go this way, it is important that you wash it thoroughly with warm soapy water. McGowan also says to rinse it with a 10% bleaching solution just to be on the safe side.

“Sämlers will be very susceptible to any kind of illness that may live on a flowerpot,” said McGowan. “If you have an old flower pot in your house you want to use to start seeds, I would recommend it first. Then rinse it really well and let it dry out of the air … This is a pretty good way to sterilize everything you have. “

The supervision of the seeds includes the review for irrigation, the mild attitude of temperatures and the growth of several inches from the top of the plant. If the seeds have come closer to end the seeding process and go outside, McGowan would like to remind people to let them get used to the outside temperatures first.

“For plants that start inside or that have grown inside, they want them to harden,” said McGowan. “They only let them sit outside in a shady area for a few days to get used to the weather and the temperatures outside. Then you have a better chance of success if you go into the ground. “

Hopefully this cannot get too far away from a fruitful vegetation period with spring. Further information from the Mu extension for starting seeds can be found here.
