Fresno State Basketball Point Shaving allegations date from 1997

Fresno, California (KFSN) – Fresno State Basketball fans may feel déjà vu because three players are accused of relying on sports, including two in games in which they played.

The team made national headlines when the La Times and Fresno Bee made two players, Chris Herren and Dominick Young, “point -shaving” in five to seven games.

In the story in March 1997 it was claimed that the players had jewelry and paid 1,000 to 2,000 US dollars per game.

The article cited unnamed bookmakers as sources.

One of Young's lawyers said the allegations were not credible.

“What they do is that they take an anonymous, illegal bookmaker, and this bookmaker says he or she, the bookmaker has a reliable source, boy who would be as if I were going to the prisoners and asking what You think the sheriff.

The allegations appeared when Action News Anchor Dale Yurong reported the dogs at the WAC tournament.

He was able to grab coach Tarkanian from her loss.

“So that you can do an article like this if everything is allusions and rumors are absolutely sick,” said Tarkanian to Yurong.

“I remember that he said that he did not believe the allegations at first and that if one of his players were involved in the point raid, he would stop training,” recalled Yurong that day.

“Well, he trained for five years.”

Two days after the article came out, Young held a press conference to defend himself.

“It is not true and I am shocked and angry that I have to stand here today to deny something as terrible as the shaving of points,” said Young in the printer.

Herren also said that he was innocent against misconduct.

After an investigation, a federal jury of the federal government found no proof of the allegations.

None of the players have ever been suspended and men played in the NBA.
