Ex-Cougar John Mateer, who was named under the top 10 qbs in college football for 2025

A driving force in the 8: 5 campaign of the Washington State Football in 2024 was the game of the second quarterback John Mateer from Redshirt.

Before the 2025 season, Mateer was named College Football Network As #37 Returning player in the nation in the top 100 outlet list. In this list, Mateer was the quarterback No. 7 in FBS.

In his lonely season, Mateer was one of the team captains of the Cougars and was appointed an offensive top former of the PAC-12 Conference. When he reached the end of the regular season, he led the country with 44 touchdowns. He had one of the most productive rushing times in the history of the state of Washington and threw the brand for rushing yards through a quarterback (826) and the increase in a quarterback (15) and the second most common touchdown of a player in WSU history. He was the only quarterback in the nation with more than 20 touchdown passes and more than 15 lavish touchdowns.

After the regular season, Mateer entered the transfer portal and followed the offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Mateer is expected to succeed in the WSU in 2025 by Zevi Eckhaus as a quarterback of the state of Washington. Eckhaus performed in three games for the WSU in 2024 after entering FCS Bryant University. Eckhaus' first start for the WSU came in the loss of Holiday Bowl against Syracuse, where he failed four touchdowns (3 pass, a rushing). He completed 31 passes in 43 trials for 363 yards and two interceptions.

The Cougars begin to start spring exercises on Saturday, March 1st. Jimmy Rogers' first spring game when the head coach of the Cougars is planned for Saturday, April 12th.
