Students in Florida State who are preparing for the support will protest against Charlie Kirk Event Event on Friday

  • The conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk brings his “American Comback Tour” to Florida State University on Friday.
  • TallaHassee students plan for a democratic society to protest against the event, while students from the turning point in the USA – founded Kirk – are enthusiastic about the expression of freedom of speech.
  • Now observe how you can hear from both students about your thoughts about the event.

Transcription of broadcast:

In Landis Green at Florida State University, students gather almost every day of the year.

But if the political commentator Charlie Kirk comes on campus this week, Landis could look much more like that.

I am Alberto Camargo, your College Town Neighborhood reporter.

If you deal with this event, the university will be completed and how students plan to show up to support and protest.

Kirk is the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative political organization that, according to his mission, is to build activist networks on high school and college campus.

He has millions of followers on his social media platforms -Owen Girard says that many of them are here at the FSU.

“Almost every person on this campus knows who Charlie Kirk is. He appeared in her social media feeds, they scroll through Tikok. They saw what he speaks of.”

Girard is President of the Turning Point USA Chapter at the FSU.

He says that Kirk's appearances are open dialogue and debates on political issues – something that Girard says is no longer common on campus.

“Modern academic institutions have promoted certain stories and certain ideas about College students and not really promoted freedom of speech in which they have different political pioneers of various ideologies to speak as it used to be.”

The event is planned for Friday – Girard says that she could move thousands to Landis Green, as it was at the University of South Florida last week.

But not all students will participate.

“We will deal in the form of protests, we will sing, we will be there with signs, we will express ourselves as students.

JJ Glueck is the co-communication chair of students for a democratic society.

She says that SDS Kirk and his opinions are critical of – they call them intolerant and not welcome on campus.

That is why she says that members of SDS will express their right to protest against the event – but they expect things to remain peaceful.

“This is an event in which we will probably control the protest against the event. Obviously nothing dangerous, we don't expect real confrontations, maybe something screaming-is a kind of part of the political sphere at this point.”

I asked university officials how to monitor the event.

They could not tell me any details, but said that FSU is aware of the event on Friday and is planning accordingly, including the preparations of FSUPD.

The event with Charlie Kirk will start at Landis Green at noon.

SDS students say they will march from protest from 11:30 a.m.
