Mexia ISD draws to the 4-day school week for the school year 2025-2026

Mexia, Texas (KWTX) -Mexia ISD announced that the district year 2025-2026 will move after a 5-2 vote during the meeting on Monday evening on February 24th for the school year 2025-2026.

The decision was followed by months of municipal surveys, recommendations of the committee and discussions about the compensation of the lesson, personnel binding and the needs of the students according to the district.

The board took three calendar options into account: a traditional five -day week, a four -day week with Fridays and the approved schedule for Monday 2.

The calendar for Mexia ISD school year 2025-2026, known as “Monday 2”, consists of 156 teaching days, 15 professional development days and a three-week Christmas holidays.

The district says that the employees will work for 170 days, free at 59 days, including additional holidays.

The new calendar includes the same number of teaching protocols as the current five -day schedule that deals with the district.

According to the accepted surveys, 80.6% of the staff supported a four -day working week, while 56.3% of the parishioners and 85.1% of secondary students preferred the change.

55% preferred a Monday among employees, and 50.2% of the students agreed, while the community members favored a Friday with 51%.

“We started with surveys, hired the community and worked with our DAC and SHAC Committees to narrow down the options,” said Bonnie Bomar, managing director of curriculum and instruct. “The goal is to keep and recruit quality educators and at the same time ensure that our students continue to receive excellent lessons.”

Bomar pointed out that neighboring districts such as Whitney ISD and Blooming Grove ISD have successfully implemented on Monday direction calendar, with positive feedback from teachers and students.

The sports director and head coach of football, Aaron Nowell, was concerned about the effects of athletes who travel for games.

“Football is the only sport that is significantly affected, and even then only a few periods are overlooked on Fridays,” said Nowell. “We have plans to minimize disorders.”

Superintendent Ryder Appleton said that due to the flexibility of the new calendar, adjustments for holidays, test plans and playoff seasons can be made.

“We have installed flexibility to ensure that we meet the needs of our students and employees,” said Appleton.

The new calendar reflects a growing trend among the school districts to adopt four -day weeks as a strategy for the commitment of employees and the commitment of the students.
