Brit Burrage spoils Kvitovas WTA -Commack -Match

The British sixth Jodie Burrage spoiled Petra Kvitova's return to the WTA tour into the second round of the Atx Open in Texas.

The two-time Wimbledon master Kvitova had not played since the birth of her son Petr at the end of the 2023 season.

Kvitova resumed her career at the WTA 250 event after receiving a Wild Card.

Despite an excellent display, the 34-year-old went after excavations in three sets.

Burrage sent an impressive 14 aces to register a 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory against the former world No. 2 and to make a last 16th meeting with Ajla Tomljanovic.

Kvitova said before the comeback -Match that she was encouraged by the success of several new mothers when they return to the WTA tour, but concerns the expectations before their own comeback from maternity leave.

Kvitova will play top-class hardcourt events in Indian Wells, California and Miami.

New mothers Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka both returned to a high level after the game, while Belinda Bencic won the title Abu Dhabi this month.

“Of course, these girls are still quite young; I would say my age is different,” said Kvitova of the WTA website.

“But we are used to working hard. Even after pregnancy and at birth we know what to do and we are ready to do it. If you have already played well, you would basically be there again, where they belong.

“Belinda and I are in contact and it is nice that she plays so well. Her daughter is 2½ months older than our Petr, that is fun. She only showed us that it is possible to come back after birth. That is A good sign. “

Tomljanovic prevailed in her opening game against Katie Evynicle 7-6 (7-3) 7-5.
