2025 Food Lion CIAA men's and women basketball tournament day 1 summary

Baltimore, Md. – The long maintained arrival of the 2025 Food Lion Ciaa men & women basketball tournaments was finally over when six games took place to start the first day. The day started with four women -matchups to start with the 50th anniversary of the women's basketball tournament, followed by two men's competitions. Of the six day one matchups, only a lower seed defeated their higher counterpart, with 5n Lincoln 4S Shaw.

(Women) Bluefield State Def. Johnson C. Smith, 74-59
The Bluefield State Big Blue (11-18) opened the women's basketball championship tournament of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) 2025 with an impressive 74-59 victory against Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (7: 19) on Tuesday morning an impressive 74-59 victory. Although Johnson C. Smith made brave efforts in the game, the great blue defense proved to be too much to overcome it. Lincoln University (PA) and Shaw University fought in the CIAA tournament in a strictly competitive matchup in the first round, with the Lions achieving a 54-49 victory in the CFG Bank Arena on Tuesday afternoon. Shaw put a late pressure and lowered the deficit in the last minute to three points, but Lincoln used the free -wing line to record the victory. The Lions will compete against Virginia State University in the quarter -finals on Wednesday, February 26, as the tournament campaign in Baltimore will continue.

(Women) Bowie State Def. Winston-Salem State, 64-54

(Men) Bowie State Def. Livingstone, 68-64
