Mass shooting more competent to be on trial in Brazos County

Bryan, Texas (KBTX) – Almost four years after shooting in the Kent Moore Cabinets Manufacturing Facility in Bryan, the case is making the case against Larry Bollin.

It was decided that he is competent to be in court in Brazos County because of the attack on the cabinet company, and a negotiation date was determined for July 14 of this year.

In November 2023, the case was delayed against Bollin after he was mentally incompetent and sent to a state hospital for treatment.

After months of ratings as medical specialists, classified as mentally competent to stand in court because of his alleged crimes in Bryan.

Shane Phelps, a senior lawyer of Shane Phelps Law, said that this will also be a challenging case with a negotiation date.

“I would expect there to be potential delays because this is always a possibility,” said Phelps. “If you know judge Hawthorne, as I do, and he will go to court on July 14th.”

Bollin is accused of having opened fire at his workplace in April 2021, killing one person and having injured several others.

Later he was arrested shortly after the shootout in Grimes County, where he was accused of shoting a state troop before he was taken into custody.

Bollin is exposed to several fees in both counties.

Grimes County is now taking steps to determine whether he can be on trial in this jurisdiction.

Grimes County officers have planned a status hearing for Wednesday to evaluate Bollin's intellectual competence. This hearing will help to determine whether he can progress with a process in Grimes County.

“I think Grimes County probably falls behind Brazos County and let him explain too competently there so that he can be brought to court there,” said Phelps.

If Phelps were found guilty, he said that Bollin could have a life in prison.
