Playoff basketball tips today | sport

The high school basketball playoffs are here for classes 5a and 6a here, and the seedings were released on Sunday for 1A-4A. Can Fruita Monument draw the state's attention? Can Palisade shock the state?

Class 6a

The storylines are quite obvious -can either start the Fruita monument team on one run?

The young team made a deep run on Great 8 last season. Daniel Thomason and Jhett Wells are back and how they go, so go the wildcats (19-4). Her absences were felt during the team's only four defeats this season. Wells achieves an average of 19.4 points per game at 46% shooting and Thomason achieved an average of 16.9 points per game with a shootout of 67%. Josh Huskey is third in the team to score 6.1 points per game.

Wildcats No. 10, who won two titles of the Southwestern League with two to back titles, organized on Friday at 6 p.m. No. 23 Liberty (17-6).

Liberty comes from Colorado Springs, where it competes in the Metro League 6a/5a/4a Colorado Springs. The Lancers took second place in the league up to No. 21 Doherty (14-9).

The No. 12 Fruita Girls (17-6) Host No. 21 Ralston Valley (12-11) on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Fruita lost 38-32 against Denver East in the off-season and now has a chance of redemption against an established front-range school. The Mustangs took fourth place in the competitive Jeffco League, which also includes No. 2 Valor Christian (21-2), No. 9 Arvada West (20-3) and No. 13 Columbine (17-6).

Fruita has a balanced trio with the Colorado School of Mines-Bound Liv Campbell, Hailee Wagner and Kenzie Mason with an average of 10 points per game.

Class 5a

The rest of the school district 51 is also represented in the aftermath of the girls.

No. 15 Palisade (14-9) Host No. 18 Thompson Valley (16-7) on Saturday at 1 p.m. In the 2023-24 season, the bulldogs had a ash-puttel-like run to the Western Slope League title, but left the playoffs early with the first round.

No bulldog has an average of 10 points per game (Delaney Wright leads with 9.2 and Mady Bavor at 9 per competition). However, the team carries out a stubborn defense with Wright and Bavaragen on average 8.9 rebounds or 7.1 rebounds per game.

No. 32 Grand Junction (8-15) Hosts No. 33 Longmont (7-16) in a play-in game this evening at 6 p.m. It is the first playoff game for the Tigers in five years. Sophomore Harper Young leads the tigers with 9.1 points per game.

No. 35 Central (7-16) Visits No. 30 severance pay (7-16) this evening at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors are under coach Raysha Kirstatter, who was assistant to Don Bava in Palisade in the first season and is managed by Sophie Litten and Emma Diaz.

No. 9 Montrose (19-4) Host No. 24 Discovery Canyon (12-11) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Red Hawks have a choking defense that gave up an average of 29.7 points per game this season. The crime runs up to Mayce Oberg and Maggie Legg, who have an average of 14.8 and 12.8 points per game. Nobody else on the Red Hawks is more than 4.8 points per game on average.

In young 5a, No. 22 Grand Junction (12-10) Visits No. 11 Longmont (15-8) on Friday at 6 p.m. Andrew Henderson and Noah Schmalz are both an average of more than 10 points per game for the tiger. First semester Grant Lewis and Will Weirath are third and fifth place in the team.

Some of these athletes may be familiar with each other when the Grand Junction football team wore Longmont in the 4A playoffs in November.

No. 24 Palisade (13-10) Visits No. 9 Cheyenne Mountain (17-6) on Friday at 6 p.m. The bulldogs are grumpy under the new coach John Sidanycz. They rely on the goal of Hunter Howard, LJ Ballenger and Carter Hayward, all of whom have an average of more than 10 points per game.

No. 4 Montrose (17-6) Play on Friday at 7 p.m. You will compete either against No. 29 Thornton (17-6) or No. 32 Wheat Ridge (11-11), which is launched today at 6:30 p.m. in a game.
