New facility dogs NYX joins North Hays County Fire and Rescue

North Hays County Fire and Rescue has welcomed a new member to his ranks – a specially trained fireplace dog called NYX, which will help both public education and the fire brigade team.

The dog was placed and included in the training process by Freedom Canines, a non-profit organization that placed service and furnishing dogs and at the same time.

NYX will work with handler Jeanine Southall, the department of the department, the department of the department to improve fire protection training in schools and throughout the community. The dog was trained to demonstrate important security techniques, including stop, drop and roll and crawl under smoke.

After difficult calls, NYX will also offer the firefighters comfort and stress relief and offer emotional support in a profession with high stress.

“We are incredibly grateful when we enter Nyx in our department,” said Scott Collard, head of North Hays County Fire and Rescue. “NYX already makes a difference, not only in our fire station, but also in the community.”

The department will officially welcome NYX during a fixed ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m., where the dog receives a badge.
