Olathe changes the school schedule after the unprecedented number of bad weather days “

Olathe, Kan. (KCTV) – After several winter storms this year, the Olathe Public School led to an unusually high number of school days that change the schedule for the rest of the year.

“After a historical winter season and an unprecedented number of weather days, the Olathe Public Schools has the necessary adjustments to the remaining school year calendar to ensure that we will meet the state -based lessons for all students,” said the district on Wednesday.

In Kansas' State Board of Education, all students have to attend 1,116 school hours, and seniors have to go at school 1,086 hours. In order to meet these requirements, the district said that it makes various changes for all students.

  • Changes for all students:
    • The planned professional development days on March 24th, April 24th and April 25th will now be all school days for all students in the district.
  • Changes for primary schools:
    • From March 24, the primary school will take place from 8:55 a.m. to 4 p.m. and extends the school day by 5 minutes.
  • Changes for middle schools:
    • From March 24, the middle school will take place from 8:20 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. and extends the school day by 5 minutes.
  • Changes for high school:
    • From March 24, the high school will take place from 7:40 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. and extends the school day by 10 minutes.
    • Late starts are removed after the spring holidays. Late starts normally on Thursdays.
    • The final day on May 21 for newcomers, Sophomores and Juniors will now be a whole day instead of half a day.

Olathe is not the only school district to make these changes. Last week Blue Valley announced a similar change and changed its schedule to avoid the end of the school year.

By changing the school plan, Olathe said that he maintains the long -term priority of our community to end the school year until the day of commemoration. “
