The 17-year-old arrested for a fatal shootout by George Caldwell in Orangeburg

A 17-year-old teenager from Orangeburg will be charged at a petrol station on February 7 for murder on the fatal shootout of the 48-year-old George “Chris” Caldwell.

Orangeburg, SC-A 17-year-old teenager from Orangeburg stands behind bars, which is charged with a fatal shootout at a local petrol station.

Malichi Johnson is charged with murder, an armed robbery, the possession of a weapon during a violent crime and the possession of a pistol under the age of 18 in the death of George Caldwell.

The shootout occurred on February 7 at around 9 p.m. outside the Dodge petrol station on the Edisto Drive. The MPs reacted to the scene and found the 48-year-old George Christopher Caldwell from Bamberg in the upper body and did not react in the parking lot.

Chef Charles Austin from the Department of Public Security from Orangeburg described the incident as “senseless and unprofitable incident”.

Caldwell's neighbor, Liz Zimmerman Keitg, spoke about the tragic loss and described the victim as “the best youngest man they wanted to see”.

“The child didn't bother anyone,” said Keitd. “It was just so hurt to know that someone did it to him. My grandchild, he was grew up like my grandchild. He was never, never in trouble.”

The city administrator of Orangeburg City, Sidney Evering, emphasized the need for the community to take measures against weapons in teenage.

“We have to come together to educate our children better,” said Evering. “The old saying is that it takes a village to educate a child, but we are this village, and if we have such things, it is an indication that we fail at our workplaces. And therefore we have to do better because I never want to endure what the Caldwell family has to endure.”

Malichi Johnson is charged as an adult.
