A provisional stove probably caused the massive fire that broke out on January 30th in the former Blue Heron Paper Mill in Oregon City, said officials from the Clackamas Fire District.

The investigators said that homeless people lived outdoors and that people reported that they saw warming fires there.

Feuerer investigators found provisional wooden furnaces and many light, flammable materials inside. The fire probably started on the second floor. The investigators found that it was random.

“Due to the entire breakdown of the structure, no competent ignition source was identified,” said Clackamas Fire in a social media post.

Grand Ronde's confederated tribes bought the 2019 paper mill. The trunk has commissioned an demolition company to clear the location that will work in phases in coordination with Oregon DeQ.
