Portland State Football returns to the Providence Park for at least 1 game

Portland State Vikings will play a home football game in the Providence Park and mark the first game for the Vikings at the Downtown stage since 2018.

Portland State will take place on November 15th on November 15th at the event location of the Big Sky-Powerhouse Montana Grizzlies, which is about a mile from the Viking practice field, but now is primarily the city's professional football teams, Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns.

Although the Hillsboro Stadium will remain the full-time home of Portland State Football, a new contract between PSU and The Timbers includes the potential for additional future Vikings games in Providence Park.

“PSU is obliged to do what we can do to bring vitality to downtown Portland,” said Ann Cudd, President of Portland State. “The football of the Vikings has always been an exciting pastime in autumn and playing in the heart of our city opens up new opportunities for the connection.”

Portland State Football has been an integral part of the Providence Park for decades from 1967 to 2018, although the stadium had the names Multnomah Stadium, Civic Stadium, PGE Park and Jeld-Wen Field for most of this time. The Vikings played the 2000 seasons and 2010 in the Hillsboro Stadium for renovation projects in the stadium in the city center. After PSU hit the North Colorado on October 13, 2018 in the Providence Park, he ended the rest of this season in the Hillsboro Stadium and has been playing there since then.

“The Providence Park has an important place in the history of Viking football, and we are happy to welcome your return for the Montana game,” said Timbers -CEo Heather Davis in a statement. “We look forward to the fact that the community comes together to support Portland State and another large event in the city center of Portland.”

The Providence Park organized a college football game during the 2022 season, with the state of Oregon rolling past Montana State in September.

The full schedule of Portland State for the 2025 season will be released on Thursday. Those who want to renew season tickets or make new season ticket deposits should contact Malik Thirdgill at mthird2@pdx.edu.
