Corruption examinations initiated in Huntington Park City officials

The law enforcement officers searched on Wednesday morning as part of a corruption examination that involves the alleged abuse of public funds, and searched the town hall of Huntington Park and the houses of the local guides on Wednesday morning, according to Los Angeles.

The arrest warrants were delivered at 11 locations, including the houses of Mayor Karina Macias and city council member Eddie Martinez, who is also executive director of Latino Equality Alliance (Lea), a LGBTQ+ community organization based in Boyle Heights. Boyle Heights Beat turned to Lea for a comment, but did not hear in the time of publication.

La County Dist. Atty. In a press release, Nathan Hochman said that the examination called “Operation Dirty Pond” began in November 2022 and focused on the potential abuse of millions of dollars of public funds that were assigned to the construction of a water center in Salt Lake Park by Huntington Park.

“My office is committed to ensuring that officials adhere to the highest standards for honesty, integrity and transparency,” said Hochman. “If concerns arise regarding the use of public funds or the actions of those in office, it is our duty to thoroughly examine and to protect the public's trust.”

Video feeds from local news channels showed yellow police adhesive tape on Wednesday morning, which were used by vehicles in the district of DA vehicles in the parking lot.

According to the press release, numerous objects were confiscated from every location, including public records, which were conducted by the city of Huntington Park, financial documents, computers, tablets, mobile phones and various forms of electronic devices.

“The city of Huntington Park admits that the district prosecutor's office of the district in Los Angeles visited the current and former city officials,” the city told NBC LA in a statement. “The city is obliged to completely work with the public prosecutor during this process, and remains the solution to the matter and transparent.”

Huntington Park, a city with more than 50,000 people, is only a few miles south of Boyle Heights.
