Bu -Alumni basketball game planned for this Saturday

Tennon – “Honor of the past; Building the future ”is the slogan for the first Buckhannon Upshur Buccaneer-Basketball-Alumni game.

The game will be played this Saturday in the high school fitness studio at 7 p.m. The Buccaneer basketball team will be present after having returned from their street game in Lincoln on the day.

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall and organizer of the alumni game explained how it came about.

“Well, I asked some of the alumni if they were interested in playing in such a game,” said Westfall. “We wanted it to have a home game, but when you consider that we couldn't train this year. This is the plan next year. My main goal as head coach is to build a culture. Most of my players don't know many of the past players in the program … these legends of the program. Naturally. I am alumni and try to share as much of our traditions as possible, but they have to have a certain understanding that they were not the first to wear their number. We have a proud story at Buckhannon-Upshur and I wanted to celebrate it. “

Westfall said he had registered 23 former players for the game.

“They had to play at least one university year for BU,” noted Westfall. “You couldn't play if you are currently playing college basketball. The alumni come from all over the state and some from outside the state. The players who come back are emphasized by one of the best goal scorers in school history in Ryan Hurst. We have legends like Jason McGrew and Scott Trent. We have a celebrity in Dillon Gaudet and come from Kentucky. Some of our heroes play in law enforcement authorities such as Riley Lamb and Tanner Collins. I am proud of these legends that they are still bleeding blue and white. “

Westfall has built the former players into two teams through a draft – Buckhannon and Upshur.

Westfall is confident that this becomes an annual event.

“As a Buckhannon community, we have far too proud and this is just one of the things,” remarked Westfall. “It is pure entertainment and people we see in and outside of our small community. This makes our small community a place where people want to live. We appreciate each other and want the best for each other. This is a celebration of all this alumni blood, sweat and tears that you have invested to say, thank you. “

Concessions will be available and the fans will be asked to visit Wvdiamonddealers.com under Diamond Hoops in order to obtain BU-HOOPS equipment and play-T-shirts.
