  • The first hooters opened in Clearwater in 1983.

Could this be the end for Hooters, the cheeky worldwide American restaurant restaurant that started in Florida?

According to Bloomberg, the popular Sportstar-Restaurant chain is reported to submit an application for bankruptcy in the next few months. This does not mean that the fighting company goes down, but if it is successful, this could still mean changes in management and a further reduction in the locations.

Hooters did not officially comment, but the chain had a few years with the loss of walk -in traffic during pandemic and the increasing costs for food. Last year, Hooters closed at least 40 locations nationwide, including four in Florida. One of them in Lakeland is said to have been the second hooters in 1984, which was ever opened.

“As in many restaurants under the pressure of the current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a selected number of shops in the sub -Perperiode,” said the sports bar chain based in Atlanta in a statement by the Nation's Restaurant News.

Over four decades, since they opened the first in Clearwater, Hooters has more than 320 hooters in 25 countries and 251 in the USA, although the “above us” page of the chain still lists 420 in 29 countries.

Some Hooters locations, including 11 in Südflorida, are operated by LTP Management, a franchisee from Hooters of America, spokesman Ilona Wolpin said in 2024. The “Original Hooters” website, which uses the original slogan “freely”, shows two new locations in Florida this summer.

Florida remains home of 44 hooters, more than any other state. Texas is closest with 39.

New Hooters opened in Wichita Falls

Hooters opened one of her world -famous restaurants in Wichita Falls.

Torin Halsey, Wichita Falls Times Record News

The first hooters opened in Clearwater in 1983, as “six business people collapsed without experience in restaurants to open a place from which they could not be thrown,” said the company. At its height, it was the largest chain in the “Brestaurant” genre of restaurants that advertise attractive waitresses in narrow shirts and shorts.

“Hooters Girls” carry white tank tops with the logo “Hootie The Owl” and short orange shorts as well as brown tights and mirrors, which is what an old version of the manual of the employee (published by the smoking weapon) called “The Look of the 'All American Cheerleader, Surfer, Girl Next Door”.

Hooters is known for wings, sandwiches, burgers, seafood and beer, the annual hooters Girls Calender and the Miss Hooters draw. At one time the chain had more than 430 locations worldwide, a casino hotel in Las Vegas, a TV show and even an airline called “Hooters Air”.

The company has been supporting local charity, marathons and local services for a long time and has been sponsoring Nascar drivers for years. The long -time partner Hendrick Motorsports fell last year and said that the restaurant chain was “unable to comply with its business obligations”. The Hooters logo had decorated Chase Elliott's No. 9 Chevrolet.

Hooters is also famous for several complaints about discriminatory attitude practices and for a long list of owners. Most recently, in 2019, Hooters was sold to Nord Bay Capital and Triartisan Capital Advisors.

Why did hooters closed the locations? Do Hooters go out of business?

Like many other restaurant chains such as Red Lobster, Tijuana Flats, Burger King, Appleby's, Cracker Barrel and the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Carrabbas Italian Grill and Flemings First -class Steakhouse & Wine Bar took a hit during the Pandemie and suffer from the recent increase in food costs.

During the pandemic, Hooters revolved for sales with the recutation. In 2021, the CEO of Hooter of America (HOA) Brands, CEO of Brands, Sal Melilli, Business Insider said that the turnover of to-go was 30% of its business, compared to 20% before the pandemic, and the company emphasized its fast chain shoots.

Hooters has expanded in other ways. The company's original founders maintain the rights to five counties in Florida and announced last year that three new hooters came in the villages in Central Florida. This summer, two openings in 700 Kristine Way in the villages and 25245 Wesley Chapel BLVD will be listed in Lutz.

“With New Hooters restaurants that are opened domestically and internationally, New Hooters Frozen products that are launched in grocery stores and the footprint of Hooters, which is expanding into new markets with companies and franchise locations, remains very resilient and relevant,” said a representative of Hooterers The Palm Beach Post. “We look forward to continuing to operate our guests at home, on the go and in our restaurants here in the USA and all over the world.”
