Doordash pays employees 17 million US dollars who have used tips for wages

The company allegedly guaranteed delivery workers a basic payment for each delivery, but did not take any tips into account.

In New York, the Food Delivery App Doordash has almost $ 17 million for unjustified customer tips in order to cover the wages of its employees, instead of having the drivers keep tips in addition to their specified payment, reported pressed press.

During a press conference on February 24th, the Attorney General Letitia James said that the company allegedly guaranteed deliverers for any delivery, but did not take any tips into account between May 2017 and September 2019.

As a result, Doordash pays the workers who pay the workers for everything that the tips do not cover. James called the step “fundamentally unfair” when Doorash did not make it clear to the customer that tips are used to compensate for the wages of the workers. “Customers had no reason to assume that these tips were used by Doordash to reduce their costs,” she said.

As a result, the company was decided to pay 16.75 million US dollars to more than 60,000 authorized workers, with up to $ 14,000 in each case. The Washington Post. Eleven million orders were granted by Doordash during the period listed in the settlement. After the company ended the apparently controversial practice in 2019, the company still received counter -reactions when the secret practice “led its customers into the misleading and exactly the people who enabled their business model to mislead,” continued James.

The delivery offer and member of the Los Loser Unidos of the workers' justice project, William Medina, described the settlement as recognition “of our humanity, our work and our dignity”.

“We have proven that we are not just numbers on their platform,” he said at the press conference. “We are a mighty, essential workforce.”

However, Doordash continues to argue that their “practices were properly presented during this time, how dasher was paid,” said that they “were pleased to have solved this year's affair and look forward to continuing to offer millions of people a flexible way to achieve their financial goals.” James, which is determined as an administrator, is monitored how the funds are distributed, contact potential beneficiaries and set up a website for deliverers to learn more about how they can apply for a share of the billing allowance.

The democratic process lawyer has established himself as the advocate of people in New York and fought for the citizens, of whom she believes that they are wrong with great business. In addition to several other large complaints, James once sued Siriusxm radio for accusations of deliberately making it difficult for customers to cancel their subscriptions. An investigation showed that customers are pushed to keep their subscriptions – ultimately keep money in Sirius' bags – after they had to wait a long time to speak to an agent.
