Vicksburg, Miss – The repairs will soon begin on streets in Vicksburg National Military Park. According to friends of the Vicksburg National Military Park and the campaign, the work on Monday, March 3, 2025, on the Grant Circle and in a section of the Union Avenue are mined.

In a publication on social media, friends of the national military park thanked the supporters for the efforts to repair streets in the National Military Park in Vicksburg.

In a social media post, the friends of the national military park wrote: “Thanks to them, our friends, the repairs on our streets from the massive storm damage in 2020 are expected to start on March 3 !!! For everyone who supported us through the middle process and helped us to master our park and its needs – we thank you !! It is thanks to them that we will finally have a fully repaired tour road this year! Special thanks go to our incredibly talented VNMP employees who have worked tirelessly (and often without appreciation) in order to receive this project through planning, design and contract for this milestone! “

On March 3, 2025, the National Park Service (NPS) begins the repair work on the Grant Circle and a section of the Union Ave in the northern part of the park. After strong rainfall in early 2020, these streets suffered catastrophic mistakes that require a closure to ensure the safety of visitors. These streets have been blocked since then. Repairs should be completed by November 2025. No additional road closures are required to complete these repairs. Construction areas are closed for all vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the project.

The work includes:

  • Install new features for rainwater control infrastructure and management
  • Stabilization of slope and soil:
  • Install reinforced flooring walls and install gabion baskets
  • Install Rammed -Gregat -Piers
  • Install load transmission platform
  • Lawn replacement/facility
  • Street
  • Lane excavation and embankment construction
  • Remove and replace the pavement on streets and Thayers approach bridge
  • Remove and replace curbstones
  • New paving strips

“This is a significant milestone in combating damage caused by the 2020 storms and to restore access to the North Union Ave. and the Grant Circle,” said superintendent Carrie Mardorf.
