Get Crappie Fishing tips at the MDC program on March 13th in the Shepherd of the Hills Center

Branson, Mon. – In Missouri, crappie fishing is an activity that is as close to many anglers as any other pastime outdoor. Angler surveys show that crappie are among the most fished sports fishing in the state.

Experienced anglers can increase their crappie knowledge in the Free Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Learn to Fish: Advanced Crappie Fishing Clinic”. This program will take place on March 13 from 6.30pm to March 20th in the Shepherd of the Hill Conservation Education Center in Branson. The shepherd of the Hill Center is located in the 483 Hatchery Road in Branson and is located next to the shepherd of the Hills Fish Hattery. The program on March 13 will have both personal and virtual options for participation. People who want to participate in the program can be at:

In this program, the MDC Conservation educators Lyle Whittaker and Jordan Poe will work with local crappie leaders to discuss some of the advanced techniques and strategies that help anglers hanging this popular sports fish. The topics include:

  • Doodle lock
  • Spider route
  • Dockfish
  • Using live baits
  • Jigging
  • How to fish a brush pile
  • How to fish standing wood
  • How to use a sea chart to find crappie
  • Introduction to modern electronics
