Apple is faced with a complaint for carbon -neutral -Apple Watch claims

The Apple Watch Series 9 was the first model called carbon neutral

Seven Apple Watch buyers sue Apple about how it allegedly made false and misleading claims that certain models are carbon -neutral.

Apple initially made an assertion of carbon neutrality with the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 9 in 2023 and was immediately criticized. Initially, a Chinese environmental research organization was a “climate wash” and then European consumer groups agreed.

Now after ReutersA case of seven users of Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra 2 was submitted. They claim that they had not bought the watches or paid less if they had not been misleaded.

The complaint was submitted on February 26, 2025 in San Jose, California. The plaintiffs from California, Florida and Washington, DC, specifically claim that Apple uses carbon souls more than real carbon reductions.

In addition, Apple's CO2 offset projects affect Land in Kenya and China, which are protected from deforestation. The applicants say that these two tree protection projects have nothing to do with Apple.

“In both cases, the carbon reductions would have occurred regardless of the participation of Apple or the existence of the projects,” they said in their submission. “Since the demands of Apple Carbonutrality are based on the effectiveness and legitimacy of these projects, Apple's carbon neutrality is wrong and misleading.”

It is not clear how the usability of the watches or offsets with really carbon -neutral effects influences the applicants. At a glance, the lawsuit seems to have more to do with payments to lawyers and applicants than to have environmental problems or goods for users.

Apple did not comment on the case. By 2030, however, it has previously been committed to a 100% carbon -neutral footprint.
