The stage is set for the start of Rodeo Cookoff

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – The worldwide championship-bar-B-que competition begins on Thursday evening. It is one of the most expected events in Houston. It is estimated that 250,000 people took part in the three -day event.

Jason Knecht is the chairman of The Cookoff's division.

Tents play a major role in the cookoff. Dozens of them have private and company teams in which invited guests can eat, drink drinks and entertainment. Darren Randel is the Chief Operating Officer at Houston Tents and Events.

“I know the whole city of Houston, who is looking forward to it, but we and our company – it is the super bowl of the tent industry,” said Randel.

The process of setting up the tents begins the week before. Randel said his team had about six days to expand a village.

“To be able to be part of a company that contributes to creating this is my favorite part, and then to come here for the first time and see everything in operation,” said Randel.

The worldwide championship-bar-B-que competition runs from Thursday, February 27th, March 1st.
