Ciac creates new “High School Football Showcase” for athletes, coach

The CIAC will organize a high school football exhibition for the first time and invite athletes from all over the state to take part.

The event will take place on May 4th at the Western Connecticut State University.

Athletes will take part in 40-yard-dash, 20 yard shuttle, 3-cone drills, vertical and long jump, position-specific exercises and 1-to-1 competitions.

“I am definitely looking forward to starting with it. I hope we can make show cases for many of our sports,” said Corey Plasky, who is involved in event management for the CIAC. “We run one for basketball, but I want to do a little more with it.”

So far there are 16 colleges who have undertaken to take part in the event that extends from Division I to Division III. These include Sacred Heart, University of New Haven, Anna Maria and Post University.

“It is for those who want to continue and play in college,” said Plasky. “Hopefully we will give you the opportunity to start your recruitment process and make it a little easier for you.”

The shop window was organized together with the former football coach by Anna Maria, Steve Croce. The Parisi Speed School, which has nationwide locations, including in Bristol, was also tapped at the event for the administration of the various exercises.

“We will definitely model it from the NFL combine,” said Plasky. “There will be a lot of tests. We have the Parisi Speed School on board to master a lot of time for timing and statistics. We will also carry out a few 1-to-1 competition competitions to really give college trainers a feeling for the athlete, you can see how they compete.”

The registration period for the showcase is April 20 and the registration costs are $ 125 before April 1. The costs will increase to $ 150 per person after April 1.
