Officials who ask the residents of Siouxland to practice fire security due to an increased risk of fire

Sioux City (Ktiv) – Due to an increased fire risk in the entire area of Siouxland; Woodbury County's emergency management encourages the public to be particularly aware of fire security.

“The mild temperatures in combination with dry, windy conditions are expected to be almost critical fire danger on Friday,” said Woodbury County's emergency management. “The residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and to follow security measures to prevent forest fires, which can lead to extensive damage to property, environment and even loss of life.”

The emergency management team provided the following tips to reduce the fire risk.

  • Avoid burning – avoid open combustion activities in the current weather conditions until the fire risk has decreased.
  • Responsible to dispose of cigarettes – make sure that cigarettes are completely deleted and properly disposed of in a safe way.
  • Beware of equipment – when using external and agricultural equipment, machine sparks are the common cause of a grass fire.
  • Grilling precaution – Avoid using an outer grill on dry grass and almost flammable materials.
  • Report fires as soon as possible- if the residents see a fire, call the local fire brigade or 911 immediately.
  • Know the local regulations in your region – some Siouxland communities have regulations and rules that can prohibit opening the burn.
