United Way of Central Louisiana organizes Rapides Frong Ed Day

Rapides Parish, La. (Calf) – On February 27, the United Way of Central Louisiana organized the Rapides Early Ed Day in the Cenla Christian Child Care Center in Woodworth.

The program dealt with the critical problems related to early childhood education, which affects children, families and the workforce from the Central Louisiana.

The spokesman for the event included:

  • Dr. Lebbie Sonnier, Louisiana Policy Institute
  • Michelle Purl, CEO of United Way of Central Louisiana
  • Cindy Rushing, director of early childhood at the Rapides Parish School Board
  • Lance Harris, Bese member for District 5
  • Monte Wilson, CEO of Christ St. Frances Cabrini Health System
  • Shannon Johns, owner of the Cenla Christian Child Care Center from Woodworth

“My prayer is that we can continue the difficult and necessary work in order to prioritize early childhood education as a critical investment,” said Johns. “The reality is simple. When we invest in children, we invest in families, in the communities and the future of our state. “

After the presentations, the participants were invited to visit the facility, meet the staff and even take a moment to read the children there.

“Children in Louisiana are the best. They earn our best, ”said Sonnier. “The most important people in this place are the little ones in these rooms today. I don't know that many people know that we are the top 20 in the country for early childhood education. Early educators in these rooms and these early learning centers are not babysitters. They are brain architects. They are meaning and magical manufacturers. “

Harris said: “The chances of an outbreak, the chances of doing the wrong things increase exponentially if our children are not prepared and ready. It is that you invest here. “
