Students at Old Dominion react to campus shooting

The Norfolk and Old Dominion University police continue to examine a shootout, in which two people were killed on Odu campus on Wednesday evening.

Norfolk, va. – The Norfolk police say two after a shootout on the campus of Old Dominion University on Wednesday evening.

18-year-old Delanio Vick and 20-year-old Timothy Williams, both from Norfolk, were shot with life-supporting injuries on Wednesday evening. They were in no way connected to the university. Then, late Thursday morning, the police announced that both victims were dead.

The shootout took place shortly before 10 p.m. in Parkplatz 3 near Broderick Dining Commons in the 49th Street.

“My friend had got away,” said a student at the university.

While the Norfolk police said nobody was involved in the incident, the students said on the campus that they were now concerned about their security.

“After I received the e -mail, I automatically went straight to lock my door because I didn't feel safe,” said Odu Senior Angel Phillips.

Phillips' dorm was right next to the shooting. She said she and her friends are now concerned about the security of the campus.

In the meantime, the head of the ODU police, Garrett Shelton, said they will prioritize that the students feel safe after the incident.

On the night of the shootout, Chief Shelton said that his team was about a minute after the call was in.

The boss said that the school had been briefly blocked after the shootout, but that was raised around midnight.

“What I will always say to the people of the university, I will never give a message that says that it is certain to resume activities, unless I have information that gives me the trust to say that,” explained Shelton.

The Norfolk police and the Odu Campus police have not yet published any suspects because they continue to examine the incident.
