It's just the beginning of the season, but the story has already been written.

When the light blue sky faded in pitch-black black, decimated penn (2-1) temple (1-3) in a 14-3 urban rival. In the team-wide evaluation efforts and the strong defensive performance, the senior middle field player Anna Brandt officially became the leading top scorer of the program.

After an outstanding performance of seven goals against John's Hopkins, Brandt returned to Philadelphia with just two goals between himself and the top of the record books.

Her first goal of the Daily Das record goal in the decreasing seconds of the first quarter. After that, Brandt was only able to find the back of the network in the fourth quarter. She ended the day with 2-11.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Brandt's shot bounced off the Crosshels and crashed from the goal line. The game continued and the second attacker Catherine Berkery achieved it in the goals, but it was another close call for Brandt in search of history.

But then she wrote history.

The last goal of the game was all of her. Immediately from the Draw Control, Brandt drove the ball to the cage to achieve its 149th career goal.

“It is so symbolic to be at home, especially in this area. I think I had my first Penn practice as a newcomer in this area, so it really means a lot, ”said Brandt. “I think it is the performance of this team – this group of people who developed the coaches and the team they built. It is proof of this. Because I'm just as good as the other girls out there with me, so it's really her record. ”

And they celebrated as if it were also their recording. Trainer Karin Corbett took a break a few games later and all the Quäker left together to celebrate with Brandt.

No mercy

The game started in a deadlock in the first quarter. The score was 1: 1 for the majority of the first quarter. Despite Penns, Temple goalkeeper Taylor Grollman was an impenetrable wall that saved after the dash of shot.

But after Brandt's first goal of the day, Penn never looked back.

The Quäker made a goal with seven goals in the second quarter. But it wasn't just a one-woman machine that drives her with a blowout victory. It was an undisputed team performance during the run, which she set up with 8: 1 for the end of half. At half -time, seven different players, including two from Freshman's middle field player Lela Greene.

Pedal's mentality to the metal was most evident in the dwindling seconds of the second quarter. After Brandt controlled with less than a minute on the clock, Brandt converted a dead sprint from it. She went to the senior defender Natasha Gorrriaran, who went to Greene. Then she shot a rocket on the back of the network, a resounding gate that had further buried the temple.

Her unanswered gate continued in the third quarter with four other goals – two of which came from Berkery before assists from the senior attacker Erika Chung. Berkery ended with four – her career.

Defense wins championships

Today, the Quäker repeatedly disassembled the owl feathers on the offensive. The owls turned the ball over 20 times, including a violation of the shooting clock, and could not get a criminal offense -rhythm of only 12 shots.

“We played a real high -pressure zone and I thought they had done a really good job and a little amazed temple,” said Corbett. “They covered a lot of soil and really played the defense as if we were needed to this day.”

A new outstanding defender is located directly in the cage: Freshman's goalkeeper Orly Sedransk. She had five parades before it was replaced by the junior goalkeeper Caitlin Noack in the fourth quarter. A remarkable rescue from her came in the second quarter. When it comes to defending a free position goal, Sedransk practically fell into a split to save the ball on the corner of the post.

“She is just very quick. Especially against Hopkins, she had some great parades, she pulled out some good parades today, ”said Corbett. “We knew that she would be an impact player for us, and she really showed that the last few games.”

“We are never really satisfied”

While it was a blowout victory, everything was not perfect for red and blue.

They initially fell back in the fight for the draws, with the temple being 4-1. But in the course of the game they found their rhythm more. The second defender Maggie Bankowski was commissioned to make a large part of the draw, but she and the rest of the Draw Control unit rolled in the course of the game and won the Draw Control Battle 13: 8.

Remarkably, Penn's bad shootout slowed down in the first quarter. They made 40 shots on this day – 25 of them were goal.

“I think we didn't do any great angular shots. I think we just shot to shoot. And I think we hurried the feeds into the feeds and in this goal we didn't really see the network, ”said Corbett. “We talked about seeing you and the network behind it [goalkeeper Grollman]I think we started shooting a little better, which I thought was great. ”

Corbett found that playing “all seven work as a unit” on March 1 will be important in her next Matchup at No. 7 Michigan.

“We continue. We are always grateful, but we are never really satisfied, ”said Brandt. “We will take this victory, we will go away confidently and are proud of what we did well. But we will use it as a learning experience and find out what we have to do better to beat Michigan. ”
