La County cracks after fake towing companies to Eaton Fire – NBC Los Angeles

The authorities in Los Angeles County ask the residents of Altadena to report if they were the destinations of fraudulent towing companies immediately after the Eaton fire.

The residents reported that between the 7th and January 10th truck with operators who claimed that the city of Altadena contractually towed vehicles without informing the owners where the vehicle was towed.

The companies later applied for excessive fees to call up their car, as from a statement by Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Kathryn Barger.

The police warn the public of fraud to occur on the Bandite tow trucks in traffic collisions in the hope of destroying victims of thousands of dollars. Carolyn Johnson reports on February 19, 2025 for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m.

Some of the vehicles were stored in the counties Riverside and in San Bernardino.

Locals who were contacted by a towing company under these circumstances, including “asked to send a photo of their driver's license or to fight their vehicle”, are asked to report all information to the Task Force for fraud in Land Empire Auto Insurvabat.

“I find it disgusting that these fraudulent towing operators exploited fire survivors during their time,” said Barger. “Those who are behind this hideous system must be held accountable and brought to court. I ask everyone who has been victim to report so that we can prevent these bad actors from enough. “

In Altadena, a woman was invoiced for towing her burned car, which was relocated to emergency access from the California Highway Patrol during the Eaton Fire.

Lisa Brounstein-Gaffney, who believed that she was the victim of a towing car fraud, immediately contacted the police, who informed her that the California Highway Patrol had dragged cars to make streets accessible to supply companies.

According to Kathryn Barger, Supervisor La County, CHP was entitled to do the work.
