Seasonal weight restrictions begin on Monday in the Cadillac region | News

Story Highlights • Roads in the Lake, Missaukee, Oscola and Wexford counties will introduce seasonal weight restrictions more than a month later than in 2024, more than a month later than in 2024.

After almost a week of mild temperatures and sunshine, road orders in the Lake, Missaukee, Oscola and Wexford districts will be issued annual weight restrictions on Monday.

This is more than a month later when they come into force in 2024. Lake and Oscola Counties set up weight restrictions on County Roads on January 31, 2024, while the counties Wexford and Missaukee enacted them on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Lake County will first come into force when you come into force on Monday at 6 a.m., followed by Oscola and Wexford Counties at 7 a.m., Missaukee County will be the last of the four counties in the Cadillac News reporting area to enact weight restrictions if you come into force on Monday at 8 a.m.

As soon as the restrictions are available, remain until further termination.

Although this winter has returned to more average weather – especially in comparison to the previous year – Wexford County Road Commission Manager/Engineer Karl Hanson said that the forecast last week was eliminated and distorted on the high side. Due to the warmth, the hard backpack on the streets gave rise to quickly and enabled the crews to remove a good part of it.

According to statutory state and local road authorities, Michigan and local road authorities can issue seasonal weight restrictions if the conditions justify. Weight restrictions are traditionally placed every spring to minimize road damage during the freezer.

When the soil builds up, water is pressed to the surface, which exerts pressure under the sidewalk. This leads to weaknesses and makes the road surface more susceptible to damage. The heavier the vehicle is, the greater the likelihood of damage to streets.

A federal motorway formula is used to determine when the weight restrictions are to be implemented. In the next 15 days, a factor will be in high and low temperatures. If the trend indicates a thawing cycle, the restrictions will be issued.

During the weight restriction period, trucks that travel on “published/restricted” roads must carry easier loads. The legal load limit is reduced by 25% to 35%, and trucks have to travel with slower speeds.

Although the local road commissions will be released on local roads from Monday, the Michigan Ministry of Transport also announced that weight restrictions for all state trunca motorways are imposed and enforced.

These restrictions apply from the borders of Indiana and Ohio north and, including the USA 10 in Ludington in Mason County, from the intersection M-116 to east of US 127 in Clare County, then north to the USA 127 to M-61 and to the east to M-61 to the intersection of the USA 23 in the city of Standish in Arenac County. These restrictions will be effective on Monday at 6 p.m.

Mdot determines when weight restrictions begin every spring by frost depths along state highways, the observation of road conditions and monitoring weather forecasts. The restrictions remain effective until the frost line is deep enough to escape moisture, and the street beds back into stability.

County Road commissions and public working departments of the city set up their own seasonal weight restrictions, which normally – but not always – correspond to the state's restrictions. Signs are generally published to indicate which routes have weight restrictions.

In order to help the heavy freight forwarder to stay in conformity and plan their routes, the County Road Association of Michigan has published an updated app for seasonal weight restrictions for iPhone, iPad and Android devices as well as a revised website for seasonal weight restrictions, microadnes.org/swrs.

The app, MI weight restrictions, offers serious information about weight restrictions with strong freight forwarders and ultimately leads to safer, better streets. It contains a color-coded card with weight restriction details of the County Road Agency, a list of limited streets to County, a list of the streets of the entire season after County, the ability to draw and pay for overweight approval online via Oxcart Group Systems LLC, and the option to receive email notifications when the counties make.

Depending on the region, Michigan's seasonal weight restrictions usually remain in force for six to eight weeks, according to the County Road Association.
