Loco for local

I am not quickly on trends, let alone food trends, since my appetite is limited and taste buds are reserved for chicken clips, chickpeas and desi deserts. But the idea of pistachios and Kunafa in chocolate fascinated me, sometimes because it sounded easy and something I would enjoy.

Fortunately, when my aunt visited us from Dubai last year, she brought the viral fix dessert chocolatier with them, which cannot know, and let me tell you that I took this bar from Gooey, crispy enjoyment like a limited offer. The price tag? A rich AED 68 (approximately 5,000 rupees). Would I have swung myself about it? Absolutely not. But did I understand why some would? Yes, yes, I did that.

When Kababjees decided to throw her hat into the chocolate arena with her own attitude, we had to conjure it up to our office.

I will be honest – I prepared myself for disappointment. With 3,000 rupees, it is on the more expensive side of the Pakistani chocolates, especially if Lals offers a slimmer, more affordable version of 500 RS less. But a bite in Kababjees' Choco-Nafa has changed my opinion.

It was not stunning, but it was good enough to satisfy my sweet tooth for at least a week. If you are not a pistachio or kunafa fan, don't try it out. To be honest, if you don't like your dessert too sweet, stay away as far as possible.

Is it worth 3,000 rupees now? Probably not. But if you share it with friends or go up and down with refrigerator bites, it can be worth its value. You can keep it in the fridge and have it over a week or more.

Half a chocolate bar because we have already eaten them –

The chocolate shell is rich, the Kunafa filling – albeit slightly mutier than the original – still delivers this familiar, sticky sweetness. It is crispy, personable and wonderfully chaotic.

If you are a fan of traditional wafers or nutty chocolates, this also offers the texture you are looking for in chocolates. But if you are a chocolate purist (read: persistent old -fashioned), save your money and adhere to your chocolate rods with damage ulcers.
