The proposed legislation tries to get rid of Florida's lieutenant governor

The voters in Florida would be asked to eliminate the governor of the lieutenant and to create a new cabinet position by “Commissioner for the Efficiency of the Government”, according to a constitutional change submitted on Thursday.

The proposal (HJR 1325) would examine and report to the Commissioner for the efficiency of the government “examining and about fraud, waste and abuse” in the executive as well as in local governments and special areas.

The majority leader of the house majority, Tyler Sirois, R-Merritt Iceland, and Rep. John Snyder, R-Stuart, were submitted to the test during the legislative period, which begins on Tuesday.

If the legislature is approved, it would go to the ballot 2026.

The proposal comes when Florida had a job in the governor Lieutenant after Jeanette Nunez resigned to the Interim President of Florida International University last week.

Governor Ron Desantis has announced that he will wait until the legislative session to appoint a successor to Nunez.

By March 2027, the proposed constitutional change would be obliged to appoint a commissioner for the efficiency of the government, which would serve up to the office for the election in 2028.

The proposal also calls for the elimination of the state government's task force, which was created in a constitutional change in 2006.

Desantis said on Monday that a new “State Dogy Task Force” would check about 900 state positions, university spending, the expenditure of the local government and the need for around 70 state bodies and commissions.
