West Virginia's veteran presence the shape of its historical start

West Virginia has been the best start since 1964 and it is not surprising that her success comes from her depth and experience.

In the season there were many unknowns for this baseball team in West Virginia. The main variables, which was the head coach of the first year of Steve Sabin in the first year, were the depth of his line -up and their experience, two things that were shown at the beginning of the year.

“I think it always focuses on the opponent in front of them,” said Sabins, which the 8-0 start of the WVU could help.

So far, 16 players have recorded a bat for mountaineers this year. 14 of them have started at least one game, and only four have started all eight games.

“The best thing about a depth in this team is that there are people who work consistently to become everyday players. And I don't know if this will definitely happen with this team because we can play with some matchups: Righty, Lefty, Power, speed, a few different options in the line -up,” said Sabins.

Of the four boys who have started all eight games, it is no surprise that it is aimed at the middle of the field. Catcher Logan Sauve, Shortstop Brodie Kesser, the second Baseman Sam White and the midfielder Skylar King are main supports in the line -up and also some of the most experienced climbers.

“I think the players who played every day, Skylar King, Sam White, Brodie Kresser, Logan Sauve, are strategically in the middle. I just stay motivated and focus on simply getting better and playing a good baseball. I don't think we will take everything for granted at this time,” said Sabins.

Both Hussey and Sauve were part of the Super Regional Team, which wrote the program history a year ago, and now these two are more history because the WVU has started their best start since 1964.

“We gain all the narrow. We do what we should, when we should. Baseball can make a million different options and we kept it on the routes and go further,” said Hussey.

Sauve said that the chemistry of this group was recognizable early and helped the mountaineers to continue their success.

“Just a super tight group of boys. We all trust each other. We all believe in each other. And I think, as you said, it is a way in the entire line, we have many young people who score critical times in critical times and achieve critical times when we need it if we need them.
