The Fairport Harbor fire brigade warns of considerable floods for kilometers -long ice jam

Fairport Harbor, Ohio (WOIO) – Massive chunks of ice have filled the Grand River and created a dangerous ice congestion.

This ice jam blocks the water flow and causes dangerous conditions for the community.

The Fairport Harbor fire brigade has that they received reports on floods in the High Street and near the Western Reserve Yacht Club.

The ice jam started in Painesville and traveled after Fairport Harbor.

Fire chiefs from both areas work together to monitor the situation and draw the public.

“When the river leaves its banks, we want our residents to be vigilant and pay attention to warnings. Be ready to evacuate if this becomes a need, ”says Chief Tom Hummel from the Painesville fire brigade.

“We recommend our residents to go with important documents, medication and a place. If necessary, we can open a senior center or one of our schools for protection, ”says Chief Robert Lloyd at the Fairport Harbor fire brigade.

The fire brigade chiefs said 19 news that they worked closely with the coast guard to open the ice jam.

They recommend everyone who lives in Lake County to register for EMA notifications.
