Brave Dog Sharwood saves hundreds of dog life by donating a record of blood

There are rules about which dogs can donate blood, they must be between certain age groups and a certain weight and of course fit and healthy.

And according to Sue, this is one of the bonuses because their puppies regularly receive health tests from veterinarians.

Her dogs, who are also a house therapy dogs, visit the houses, are all so relaxed as they give blood. Sharwood even wags his tail and often falls asleep and begins to snor.

“He is so relaxed that it is incredible,” laughed Sue.

When she spoke about the process, she said: “People are always really surprised when you tell them about it.

“They arrive with a very warm welcome, they go in and see a vet and the dog is health -checked – this is an additional bonus. Then blood is taken to ensure that it is suitable.

“If your dog is sick, you may only know when he starts showing signs, but by giving blood you will receive regular health tests.

“You can go about every 10 weeks and I am lucky, I have about five or six venues that I can easily reach.”

After the donation, dogs are showered with love and affection and toys and delicacies are given.

You then have to rest and drink a lot of water to relax and regenerate your blood.

Sue said that the importance of her dogs donates her blood really hit home a few weeks ago when one of them had a medical emergency.

She said to us: “My older dog had a bleeding from the nose, we couldn't stop the bleeding and he had to be pushed in. He was not far from a transfusion.
