Friendly old north florida – the hike

51.4 miles on the Florida Trail from Camp Blanding to Olustee Creek

Day 4

Day 4 started with the registration to hike 6 miles through Camp Blanding. It was warm and humid, but there was a short shower around 4 p.m., which cooled down well.

It was a wonderful day and we hiked about 10 miles. We were able to filter water made of crystal -clear Magnolia -See.

Lake Magnolia

We spent the night on a trail angel's place. She has a small cabin and a shower outdoors, so it was nice to be clean. Oh yes, yesterday we also showered in the Gold Head Branch State Park, 2 showers in a row!

Day 5

We started with a pretty walk along a quiet residential street. Then to a highway on which we came across the first opportunity we had to buy more food. It was a gas station that is used to hikers who come by, so they all had our favorite dishes! And without asking us, they told us where the branches and the water pins were outside.

Yum!

Then a little further on the highway and we went into the forest. It was a flat walk along the same bike path where we started. We came across 4 other hikers! Are we in the hiking bubble? There were a couple from California who had already hiked a double triple crown. That means you were twice the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail! That's about 16,000 miles!

Cowboy, Mosey (I), Cache22 and why not? !!

After the paved part of the path we went on an unpaved rail/path on which some railway peaks still left lying around.

Railway tip on the way

We had arranged a place of accommodation this evening that was a few miles away, and our host Sara picked up us. So you advise something, still shower tonight !! And a washing machine, so we and our clothes are clean. There was also “Loaner clothing” to wear while our laundry was finished and I found a wonderful outfit. How thoughtful !!

A bit like a big tent, no?

There were also the boat brothers that we had hit on our first night. They had been in the city and bought supplies to make chicken fajitas, and the mutual with us and another hiker. We are really spoiled! We hiked about 12 miles today.

Day 6

We had to sleep this morning and at 9 Sara drove back on the way. On the way we stopped at a petrol station so that Cowboy got a mountains for caffeine and sugar, he wanted to help him end our longest day. We did 15 miles!

The first 7.5 miles lay on the same rail/path as yesterday, then 2.5 miles on an unpaved road. We stopped at the corner for lunch, where the path for the last 5 miles bends on a busy street. It is a dilapidated building and as you can see, it offers a great picture 😂

A place to sit is a place to sit

The last roadwalk had a solar arm on one side and on the other side a tree farm. There was also a bridge with hardly any room for pedestrians. Terrifying !!

Cowboy defies the bridge

We strolled into the Lake Butler and went to the local Mexican restaurant to get a delicious meal. You are used to seeing hikers, so the waitress asked if we would have to top up our phones and fill our water bottles. Then it was only a short walk to the lawn of the town hall, where they allow hikers to camp. We were satisfied with ourselves that we went so far today!

Day 7

Today began to pack the town hall and chat with Pink Bart, another hiker that we had hit a few days ago. Then a stopover in the local IGA food business for the next 4 days for food. I met a city representative in the cash register and he greeted us in her city. Two other people asked about our hike, so friendly people.

Brush Bert !!

Outside the city is a 7 -mile road walk. It was warm and very damp, but we knew that a cold front was traveling with rain. I also knew that there was a covered picnic pavilion and I hoped that we could make it before the rain.

The rain comes to us on the street

We saw how the rain comes, we didn't make it in time! It was cold and windy, so we dried out and warmed up in the pavilion and waited up to 2 when the rain stopped.

The next 7 miles were mainly on forest roads, but there were also a few bogs.

Classic pine forests

Justtttt a little swampy

At the end of the day we had a blue sky and a nice sunset.

Today it was 14.4 miles and because of the rain delay we had to camp in the dark. When we went on the way, we ask Bridy Bert: “Is that cowboy and Mosey?”
