Three RJ Vial elementary employees, who were arrested in examinations of childcare

Paradis, La. (WVUE) – Three employees of the RJ Vial primary school in St. Charles Parish were arrested after an investigation of the alleged abuse of a student, the authorities confirmed on Friday (February 28).

The Sheriff's office in St. Charles Parish started the investigation after the school officers had reported concerns about a possible damage to a student.

According to detectives, the child's mother noticed unusual bruising on the right bicep of her child, the left chest and upper back on the right biceps on February 25.

She contacted the school to determine whether incidents had occurred that could explain the injuries.

The school administrators checked the video film material and the daily activity protocol of the student before notification of the law enforcement authorities. After examining the evidence, detective received arrest warrants for three school workers:

  • Richard Hudson, II, 44, a teacher, was booked with cruelty towards young people, a crime.
  • Quiana Smith, 46, a para-educator, was booked with the cruelty of the young people, a criminal offense.
  • Misty Schaubhut, 47, a replacement teacher, was booked with failure, abuse, an offense.

In a statement, the public schools of St. Charles Parish confirmed that the school system conducts its own internal studies in addition to cooperation with law enforcement authorities.

“The RJ VIAL primary school checks how a student incident was treated by school employees,” says the explanation. “In accordance with our commitment to the security and well -being of the students, the school system immediately informed the Sheriff of St. Charles Parish and the initiation of its own internal examinations. The associated employees were brought on vacation until the result of the examination. Since this is a personnel matter, we cannot provide any further details. We are still obliged to treat this matter with diligence and in accordance with our guidelines, procedures and the law. “
