Centerpoint Energy improves the detection of gas leaks with Picarro systems

Shreveport, La. (Ktal/KMSS) – A natural gas leak can have serious consequences if they are not recognized quickly and precisely, and Centerpoint Energy says that they continue to use new and advanced technologies to identify methane in the air.

According to the press release from Centerpoint Energy, you use additional Picarro Advanced Mobile Leck recognition systems. According to the centerpoint, state-of-the-art vehicle technology enables its crews to find and repair potential natural gas leaks faster and to repair and improve system security.

The Picarro systems are used all over Louisiana, including Shreveport. According to Centerpoint, the system is 1,000 times more sensitive than conventional leak recognition methods, since it rather identifies methane emissions to parts per billion (ppb) than parts per million (ppm). According to the centerpoint, problems can be identified earlier and faster.

“This technology enables us to recognize potential leaks with greater precision and speed, which strengthens the safety of our system and is one of the many ways that we invest in the keeping of natural gas in the pipe and outside of air,” said Richard Leger, Senior Vice President of Centerpoint, natural gas business. “We continue to promote innovative solutions to offer a safe, reliable service that benefits our customers and the communities for which we serve.”
