Dothan is preparing for his happiest day!

Dothan, Ala. (WTVY) – Just one sleep before the carnival festivals start! Here is a look at the security measures that the Dothan police meet to ensure security.

Mardi Gras, French for fat Tuesday, comes from Mobile, Alabama. It is a celebration that happens before Lent.

The city of Dothan has been organizing a carnival parade for 11 years.

“We are very lucky that there are so many people in one area, but we haven't yet done many incidents, and we just want it to be sure that it will continue to stay,” said Dothan Pds Major Will Glover.

According to Major Glover, security is the focus this year.

“We were very lucky that there were very few cases of really anything,” said Glover. “We had a few arguments that have become physical, but nothing big.”

The Dothan Police Department increases the number of officials working on Saturday together with other authorities.

“We have updated the number of obstacles that we set up,” said Glover.

The city is now bringing it in to stop traffic on Saturday.

“We have larger barriers; We have different trucks that are used to protect everyone, ”said Glover.

The parade has a new starting point this year. It will start in Westgate Park instead of in Solomon Park.

“Due to all swimmers and all cars, it gets overloaded in this area,” said Glover. “We found out whether there would have been an emergency in most districts that we could not have received a fire engine or an ambulance or even a police car to help.”

Although Mardi Gras is an entertaining time, Major Glover asks the parents to be vigilant during the celebrations.

“Keep an eye on your children,” said Glover. “They have the urge to run out and try to get the pearls and things out of the swimmers. So pay attention to it. When you drink, remember to do it. We also do not want instances to alcohol. “

One memory: don't park in the Foster Street from Friday evening. If your car is left overnight, it will be towed at the owner's expense.

The road closures for the parade begin on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The parade begins shortly afterwards at 3:30 a.m.
