Prince William speaks Welsh and praises Wales

The Prince of Wales used his first message in Welsh to wish Wales a “Happy St. David's Day”.

Prince William recorded a social media video on March 1st, the day when Wales' patron Saint “Wales celebrates history, culture and incredible people”.

His words in Welsh followed a trip to Wales with his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, on Wednesday when the Pair visited pontypridd.

While he has no formal lessons, it is assumed that William has learned some conversation -Welsh, but it is not known who teaches him or whether he takes part in courses.

In his message, the prince said: “Hello. Today we come together at St. David's Day to celebrate Wales – his story, its culture and incredible people.

“Wales continues to inspire from its breathtaking landscapes to his language.

“Today we will celebrate everything that is magical in Wales.

“To the people of Wales and everyone around the world, Happy St. David's Day.”

It is known that Prince William greets people with a few words from Welsh in the country, but has not spoken completely in public before.
