Cumberland man was charged after he set his mother's car on fire

Allegany County, MD (February 28, 2025) – The deputy firefighting bite has charged a Cumberland man in connection with the insertion of his mother's vehicle in early November 2024. Terry Lynn Ford Jr., 24, was arrested on Wednesday with the support of the Cumberland police department.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on November 1, 2024, the fire brigade of Cumberland was sent to a vehicle fire in front of the 883 Patterson Avenue. On arrival they discovered a fire in a 2005 Toyota Camry Solara. A joint investigation between the Cumberland Fire Marshal office and the state firefighter's office came to the conclusion that the fire was deliberately stopped and the car and the adjacent house harms around 5,000 US dollars.

The investigators contacted Ford on the day of the fire and he reported that his mother had bought the vehicle from another person and that it had not been operated for several months. He told them he woke up with “Boom” pillars, discovered the vehicle “in the air and tried to extinguish the fire.

The deputy half of the fire brigade continued their investigation over several months. Finally, they developed Ford as the person who is interested in setting the vehicle on fire, including the use of an explosive device to set fire to the vehicle.

With the help of the Cumberland Police Department, Ford was arrested on Wednesday. He was charged with intentions because of possession of an explosive device with intention, manufacture/possession of a destructive device, arson second degree, malicious burning burning of the first degree, malicious, burning second degree and malicious destruction of property.

Ford was initially recorded without bond and later released after a deposit on the judiciary on Thursday.
