The latest: a day in Brazilian wild carnival parties in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian Carnival Revelry ran from the rough street parties to the glittering parades.

Carnival started on Friday afternoon and today marked the first full day of the lectures. Stay all day at The Associated Press, while our photographers and reporters bring you into happy madness.

Here is the latest:

One of the popular streets on Saturday morning is friends of the Jaguar, on a beach that looks over the water in the Sugarloaf Mountain by Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of night owls are adorned here, all in Leopard and Jaguar print clothing.

Marina Caetano, 39, has only missed friends of the Jaguar in the past 11 years because she was hospitalized – and yet she dreamed of checking.

“It's wonderful. The best street party. The energy, the people, the music, ”said Caetano. “I have love for this party.”

The party has a gang of saxophones, trombones and drums that are covered by a truck load of speakers to distribute their sound far and wide. And the choreographed dancers, “The Jaguarettes”, crawl around and foamed large cats with detailed make-up.

“It is a room in which we can express a lot of art,” said dancer Dandara Abreu, 36. “It enables our freedom of expression.”

The Sao Paulo parades started on Friday evening and brought thousands into the sambadrome of the city.

The city's top schools celebrated Afro-Brazilian and indigenous traditions and honored some of the most popular musicians in the country, including Cazuza, Toquinho and poet Vinícius de Moraes.

The Samba School Academicos do Tatuape presented its parade about social injustices and the struggle for equality, inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. The theme of the group for the year is a famous quote from the civil rights leader: “Injustice everywhere is a threat to the judiciary everywhere.”

Parades by Sao Paulos Premier Parade League end tonight and the best Samba schools in Rio de Janeiro will start on Sunday evening.

Also on Friday afternoon one of the most traditional street parties by Rio, Carmelitas, arrested the Bohemian district of Hilltop in Santa Teresa.

In the area there are the Carmelites monastery, which explains the usual robe of the party: Many of his night owls came disguised as nuns and priests.

Some recognized Pope Francis in the party, who remains in the hospital in Rome with double pneumonia.

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro presented the key to the city to his carnival monarch on Friday and opened King Momos symbolic five-day reign about the celebrations.

“Don't call me. Call King Momo until the ash comes on Wednesday ”. “You should come for this guy. He will be responsible for the whole. “

Momo's term is a symbol that society is turned upside down during the carnival. His role is inspired by Greek mythology. Momus is the personification of satire, ridicule and disrespect.
