Lopes Split Matches Saturday at Cactus Classic

Tucson, ariz. – The No. 18 Grand Canyon Beach Volleyball team completes the weekend game with a highly competitive split in Arizona and achieved a 3-2 victory over the state of Boise before falling 3-2 on the US state of Arizona on Saturday.

The GCU opened the day with an exciting 3-2 win against Boise State and gathered after dropping the two best flights. The Lopes won victories in the lower three flights, which were highlighted by Becca and Jess Drake in the 3S couple (23-21, 21-16). GCUS Karynn Garrow And Sophia Hladyniuk dominated her match (21-9, 21-16) during Madi Bogle And Regan Holmer achieved the decisive point with a three-person victory (21-16, 18-21, 15-8).

The GCU fought in the second game, but only briefly came up with a 3-2 defeat against Arizona State. The Sun Devils took control early on and secured straight victories in the two upper flights. For GCU, the drake sisters responded to GCU with a coarse-grained three-person victory (19-21, 21-18, 15-10) in the 3S couple, with Garrow and Hladyniuk achieving a comeback victory (11-21, 21-16, 17-15) in the 4S couple. ASU, however, scored the game with a straight victory in flight 5. Together with the Drake sisters, Hladyniuk and Garrow remain unbeaten this season.

The Lopes showed resistance all day, secure a victory and pushed a top 15 opponent into the wire. The GCU will go to Stanford next to drive a tournament in the intermediate season conference tournament from March 7th to 8th with games against USC, Cal, Oregon and UCLA.
